What plan would suit your high school student? What subjects do you teach and when? Do you follow a basic high school plan, a general college prep plan, or a rigorous college prep plan? This seminar will help organize your thoughts and lay the groundwork for a viable four-year plan. You'll learn about high school credits, simplifying grading, and the fundamentals of record keeping—transcripts, extracurriculars, and diplomas.

The wizards are everywhere in our culture today. They promise that if we follow their yellow brick road, we can have it all—a brain, a heart, and courage. However—"There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." (Proverbs 14:12) The wiseman knows the right path to follow and to whom he should listen. Christians are to learn how to walk as wise men, "making the most of our time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:16). From this you will learn how to distinguish between the ways of the wizards and the way of the wiseman. You will learn how to destroy secular arguments "raised up against the knowledge of God" and learn how to "take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (II Corinthians 10:5).

It can be intimidating to think about educating a kid who’s blowing the curve, racing ahead, and seems to want more. Can you really meet his needs, or would he be better off with professionals? How can you help him fit in socially? Should he graduate early or on time? Hal and Melanie were involved in gifted programs in school, and had several precocious children themselves. You can meet the needs of your bright child and enjoy doing it!

Creating a high school transcript is a vital part of your teen's high school records. In this interactive, practical seminar, you'll create a transcript that can be used as a pattern when designing your own. A college education can be a valuable enterprise that promotes spiritual maturation and intellectual depth in a student. However, identifying the right college can be a difficult task. There are many important aspects to consider beyond one's major, tuition costs, geographical location, and reputation. Vice President of Gutenberg College, Dr. Eliot Grasso, explains the inner workings of higher education and offers families essential tools for researching and identifying colleges that will align with their moral commitments and educational goals.

During this session, students will have the opportunity to study living sea stars and dissect a preserved sea star! Previous knowledge is not necessary. At least one parent must be present for the activity. Children as young as 5-years-old can be successful in this activity with direct parent support. All students must take directions and safety seriously, or they will be asked to sit out. Together we will answer questions which could include: How does a sea star feed? Where do sea stars live? Why did God make sea stars? What are the parts of a sea star? What types of sea stars live in the Pacific Northwest? Are sea stars and starfish the same thing?

Jobs in the building trades are projected to increase faster than jobs in every other sector in America over the next decade. Over the same period, many white-collar jobs requiring 4-year college degrees will cease to exist. This talk exposes the “Vital Lie” in our society that manual labor is only for low-paid, uneducated, dropouts. In fact, trades are among the highest-paid, longest-lasting, and most resilient professions

This workshop addresses a crucial but frequently misunderstood topic related to special needs homeschooling. In this power-packed workshop, Faith explains the difference between accommodations and modifications, describes 504 Accommodation Law, and answers homeschooling parents’ most frequently asked questions. Faith will also share a disability resource guide for teens and young adults.

There is a reason that American school children score at the bottom on international science assessments. It is the ineffective way in which science is taught in schools. Most of us were subjected to this system and obtained only a cursory understanding of science. As homeschoolers, we have the freedom and opportunity to throw out those unproductive techniques. We can truly impart a deeper knowledge and love for science. Jeannie will share five vital steps, inspired by Charlotte Mason, that will ensure you impart a superior science education. These five steps will not only enrich your homeschool, they will prepare your children for high school and college.

For thousands of years before college was an option, people trained for work through the apprenticeship model. Rather than going tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars in debt, young people were paid to learn and were prepared for life by godly mentors. This talk explores alternatives to the college-debt route, including, apprenticeship, mentorship, and entrepreneurship.

This workshop addresses some of the challenges associated with teaching struggling or atypical learners at home in the high school years. Do you have questions such as “How do I award my child with special needs a diploma?” or “What do I do since my child with dyslexia can’t read typical high school level material?” Faith discusses alternative coursework, specialized curricula and learning materials, assistive technology, transcript options, possible graduation guidelines, high school programs for special learners, and post–high school options. She also offers tips for navigating the process of applying for testing accommodations for College Board tests.

You can do this! The high school years can be the best homeschooling years of all. We will discuss the basics you need to know about planning and goal setting, figuring out what your unique teens need, finding the right resources, record keeping that doesn’t give you headaches, and preparation for your teens’ futures.

Do you value your imagination? Your child’s? This workshop is an exploration of the importance of imagination in education, faith, and life. Mason said that “imagination is, like faith, the evidence of things not seen” and is an integral part of everyone’s personhood. How can we nurture this in our materialistic society where testing reigns supreme?

Writing is one of the subjects a homeschool mother dreads to teach. There is a reason for this. Most people do not understand the difference between academic writing and creative writing. In fact, the difference is so vast that most publishers won’t publish a novel from a person who is accomplished in writing nonfiction. Nonfiction, like math, is formulaic and easy to master. But few students are given the formula. Instead, they are given curriculum that increases writing anxiety, requiring flowery prose, metaphors, similes, onomatopoeias, alliteration, and the list tirelessly goes on. The truth is that this is not the kind of writing that earns one A’s in college; it’s quite the opposite. In this talk, Jeannie will share the simple formula that will make writing the easiest subject you teach.

Every teen has a different life destination. Here are ten tips for creating a transcript that truly shows who your teen is and where they are headed in life. We will discuss transcripts for teens headed into the workforce, the military, community colleges, private colleges, and competitive universities.

Mathematicians and scientists have been closely tied to many famous disasters. The Challenger explosion, the failure of the Mars Explorer, and the Kansas City Hyatt Regency walkway collapse all involved thinking errors. Our future mathematicians and scientists must know how to prevent tragedies such as these from occurring. Because science and mathematics instruction is often dominated by facts and calculation, children are rarely exposed to these important concepts. You will leave this session with many high interest stories and activities that will fascinate your children and show them the strong connections between math and science and the world we live in.

Homeschooling science is one of the most daunting challenges of the high school years. It requires high-quality instruction, with the student not just ingesting great quantities of knowledge, but performing the right activities and receiving coaching on those activities. Diane offers concrete guidance on how to recognize instruction of sufficient quality for your student to succeed with science. It addresses, the importance of labs, research reports, and tests as well as the benefits and shortcomings of AP & honors science courses, community college courses, and other options for fulfilling science requirements.

Technology has fundamentally changed education and almost every educational institution on the planet hasn’t caught up yet. There is a foundational shift from an answers-based paradigm that has dominated education since universities were invented to a questions-based paradigm. Simply stated, if you are still teaching in an answers-based paradigm you are missing a key opportunity to prepare your student for the world that they will live and work in. This session is all about teaching you what a questions-based paradigm is, why it’s important, and how to teach it.

Despite a popular belief to the contrary, the world and culture does not work on facts; it runs on story. Stories are what drive cultural and social change, inspire action, give meaning, and educate the next generation. Western Civilization in particular is driven by the stories in the Bible. Understanding story, and especially the Biblical story, is essential to understand the world you live in, and your part in the grand story that is our reality. The session will help you understand story, Biblical story, and how that understanding will have an immediate practical impact on your life.

Your teen is changing, and they need you to stay the course through the most critical years of your homeschooling journey? While they struggle to figure out life, your steadiness helps them navigate the adulting process with less stress and great confidence. When you understand how to navigate the high school years, they can be the most rewarding years of your parenting journey.

You are a human being, not a human doing. Culture and society will tell you that changing the world and making a difference with your life will require you to become rich, famous, and/or powerful. Unfortunately, it’s extremely difficult to become rich, famous, and powerful. Fortunately, that’s not the way you change the world and make a difference. Christianity has a different plan for world changers, a plan that anyone can follow, that requires community, and that you can start today. This session will teach you how you really change the world and find meaning. Caution: If you attend this session you will have to start today!

This workshop will discuss what parents can do to help their students develop these essential skills.

If you are like most parents, you are concerned about what your kids might post online. Unfortunately, social media is a powerful platform that isn't going away. While more and more kids seek relationships online, you can teach them how to create a positive profile that helps influence the next generation. Connie Albers educates teens and parents on using technology as a tool for the Kingdom by creating a positive social profile that promotes causes they are passionate about. This presentation is for you if you want to learn from a mother who has successfully navigated her five children through the social media maze.

When a Christian gets his game on, sirens go off in hell. A Christian man functioning as he ought to has always been, and always will be, considered “dangerous” to this world’s systems. There is no greater threat to the Dark Kingdom than a man courageously shining Light and proclaiming Truth. Since Godly men are “dangerous men”, the games they must learn to play are “dangerous games”.

Jimmy’s 15th birthday goes from joy to disaster after his father passes down a watch and a journal containing information that two men are sent to silence. In modern day, Scott Penner finds his faith challenged when he’s handed an assignment to cover Darwin’s voyage to the Galapagos. At home he must confront the family’s bad habits and poor attitudes towards each other.

This session is from Kickstart: Launch Your Life, courtesy of Daniel Craig. Read the following description of the Kickstart program! “What am I going to do with Johnny?” When 36% of college graduates show no cognitive gains after four years of study, and only 51% can find full-time employment after exiting a higher education system with an average price-tag of $72K (public) to $140K (private), it’s impossible to deny that the college paradigm has failed us. How then are we to prepare our young people for their God-given calling so that they’re able to successfully engage the marketplace in a difficult economy? Though man’s education systems are declining, God’s program of relationship-based, character-focused, and life-integrated education has never been more effective. Mentorship prepared 12 men who change the world 2,000 years ago, and it’s still the most powerful method for launching young men and young women into life today. And that’s why we’re excited to announce the release of Kickstart–your student’s step-by-step guide to launching their life with clear vision, through powerful mentoring relationships and real-life application. Designed for young men and women, ages 15+, this breakthrough self-study program. This program is also great as a study with parents. This session focuses on the following: - What Is Wrong with Us? - Vision: Where It Comes From - Vision – What It’s Not - The Kingdom of God - Seeking God vs. Seeking You - Vision: What Is Yours?

Jimmy’s captured and put in a place where nobody seems to care that he’s been kidnapped, except a young boy, Tom. For the Penner family, Scott’s father, Ian, dies. This leaves behind his mother, Ellie (who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s) and living in a mysterious home.

Missions is the great call of our Lord for all believers to take part in. Yet, not all of us are evangelists, church planters, or pastors. Is there a place for the technically minded in missions? Yes! God has gifted each of us in unique ways so that we can use those gifts for His Kingdom’s work. In this presentation, come learn about how the skill of aviation in missions is spreading the Gospel farther and faster to the most isolated parts of the world.

These wonderful children learn in a different manner than their left brain siblings. You will learn how to identify the right brain child, and learn many simple teaching techniques, such as Right Brain Reading and Right Brain Math. Right Brain Reading is the method Dianne used in her Resource room to help students make a two-year gain in reading in one year! For kids who find math “miserable”, this is a Godsend. No curriculum required! Help your children get in touch with the “smart part of themselves”! Poor test takers will learn how to store facts using their photographic memory. Everyone looks smart when these strategies are used.

Is your child interested in electricity and you aren’t sure how to support their interest? In this workshop we will demonstrate the best ways to present abstract concepts around electricity. We will also provide your family with a number of simple, low cost and high interest experiments to help cement learning.

The two men who burned down Jimmy’s barn (Marley and Clive) comeback, looking for his father’s journal and threatening Jimmy’s mother. The Penners come to Ian’s funeral and find that there’s no one to take care of Grandma (Ellie). The family begins to work together to fix up the house, but Ellie refuses to sell.

What is wrong with homosexuality? Our nation is rapidly moving from a position of accepting homosexuality as a legitimate lifestyle to demanding its acceptance even among those who have biblical convictions against it. The wise Christian will have a biblical answer ready for those who question why they uphold “traditional” (biblical) marriage values. Is homosexuality wrong? Why is it wrong? Why does it matter, really? Understanding Romans 1 is key to knowing what the Bible teaches on this contentious subject.

Many colleges are saying the ACT isn’t necessary, but don’t be fooled! Though it is not required for admission in many schools, scores are often used for skipping remedial and entry level coursework and gaining scholarships. The time and money saved in college with a solid ACT score can be well worth the effort of preparing for this test in high school. We will talk about how colleges use ACT scores as indicators, what scores will typically earn scholarships and how to prepare for the test with tips by two homeschoolers who increased their scores enough to earn sizeable scholarships.

You may have a right brain learner in your midst!

Do you have a child who is “allergic” to a pencil? You may have a child who groans about writing, writes reversals, or misspells words he knows when he writes. These children are often thought of as sloppy or lazy when they are really using way too much energy for the writing process. The writing learning gate is the most common gate that is blocked with gifted kids. In this workshop you will be shown a daily exercise you can do with your child to get the writing into his “automatic” brain hemisphere, and remove stress from the writing system.
