Although we usually think of evaluating as testing, there are a multitude of methods to monitor progress that don’t involve paper and pencil and a 100 point scale. You can creatively evaluate how your child is doing in any given subject while clarifying expectations for both of you. Learn: what a “rubric” is and how to use it to effectively measure progress, subjective versus objective evaluations, how to define parameters while thinking outside the box, and hands-on creative tools to measure progress for multi ages. Come appreciate how to take the stress out of “grading” while enhancing your ability to evaluate and critique what your child is learning and understanding.

After a child is tested, the results are usually shown on a computerized printout containing columns of numbers in percentiles, standard scores, and stanines. These scores are often not fully understood, and as a result, the information is not used to shape instruction and guide decisions for a child’s educational program. In this workshop, Sarah will help parents interpret the significance of test scores and understand how to use the numbers to get a balanced view of the child’s strengths and weaknesses. Parents will gain a clearer understanding of the many types of achievement tests available, the differences between group and individualized testing, and the benefits of testing to monitor student progress and to guide instruction. Come to be encouraged and learn more from your child’s test scores.
